August 1, 2018 – How do you bring a children’s book with all the characters to life in in the digital world? KDROM Enterprises approached this task by diving into the imaginary world of The Spider Friends and creating paths to bring this world to life (digitally) in several different ways.
Artist, author and illustrator – Wendy L. DiNicola – is the creator of the children’s book, The Spider Friends (Meet Us). The concept, characters and the world they live in was born 20 years ago when she and her son created them in the quiet minutes before his nap. “I have discovered that my book is more for the parent than the child. I am attempting to provide opportunities where imaginations can meet. A byproduct is the validation of each other’s creativity and learning that your imagination is never wrong.”
With that goal in mind, KDROM Enterprises delivered solutions and developed programs to keep building on The Spider Friends brand and encourage interaction on multiple levels. “It was already exciting and engaging to review the book in PDF format – a creative platform that encouraged you to jump right in. So, that is what we did and came out the other side as digital ambassadors for the characters and the imaginary world they live in.”
In conjunction with the primary web site, thespiderfriends.com, KDROM developed a kid-friendly blog zone known as The Web – The Official Club of The Spider Friends where parents can learn more about each character, get access to character-created content, activities, blog posts and so much more. We even implemented an upload feature so that users can share pictures of their own creations with other club members.
Interaction with the author and all the characters from The Spider Friends is also provided (and encouraged) through two social media platforms – Facebook and Instagram – with a YouTube channel featuring mini-cartoons starring the characters from the book under development.
KDROM Enterprises also worked to deliver an on-line, animated version of the book. This eBook format launches right in any browser and can be read on any device with no need for any special reader or app. An app version of the eBook was also developed, along with a recently released game from one of the characters, and is available on the App Store for iOS devices.
